Though really - I may be a little biased as I did make it up myself...
Random Day - for those of you who aren't my friends - is something I made up early 2006 when I realised that every close friend I had celebrated their birthdays within the first couple of months of the New Year (including myself). Which, left a whole ten months free of any kind of celebration where we could buy and recieve presents.
It's not like we didn't try though - celebrating valentines, easter and any other marked holidays we could (though I kind of drew the line at celebrating mothers and fathers day as such).
Realising this I came up with a plan.
Taking a leaf out of Alice in Wonderland with their Unbirthdays I thought to myself - what if we just celebrate one day at our own choosing? One random day sometime within the year.
Thus Random Day was created.
There aren't really any rules as such - and all are free to celebrate it with me - there are a few things that you have to know:
(1) The holiday isn't set to a specific date - as that would kind of defeat the purpose of 'Random'. Celebrate it whenever you wish. (I usually set my Random Day sometime within the summer as it is the halfway mark between birthdays and Christmas).
(2) Not everyones Random Day is to be celebrated on the same day.
(3) If you recieve a Random Day gift - then it's polite to reciprocate with a gift of the same value (be it bought or made)
(4) When you give over your gift you have to shout 'Happy Random Day' as loud as you can (if only to startle those passers-by)
That's it.
HAPPY RANDOM DAY!

All together walk alone
Against all we've ever known
All we've ever really wanted
Was a place to call our home
But you take all we are
The innocence of our hearts
Made to kneel before the altar as you tear us apart
